Beyond the Classroom

Jennifer Small

2001 Graduate of the Student Personnel Administration Program

E-mail: SMALLJL@BuffaloState.edu

I’m a proud double graduate of Buffalo State College.  I received a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics/Nutrition in 1998 and a Master’s in Student Personnel Administration in 2001.  In addition, I was actually the person who started the Student Personnel Administration Alumni Chapter back in 1999.  I took this responsibility on as an Independent Study project and was very excited to see the chapter take off in full swing from there.

During my graduate program and upon graduating, I’ve been working in the Institutional Advancement arena.  My first job was as a part-time Alumni Director at SUNY Delhi in 2000, where I was charged with coordinating their Alumni Reunion Weekend efforts.  From there, I transitioned to Development work while supervising the College Foundation Phonathon fundraising program at SUNY Cortland from 2000-2002.  After two years at Cortland, I was happy to be able to accept a position at my alma mater in the Alumni Affairs Office and have been working in this office since 2002.

In my current position as the Assistant Director, I assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of more than 70 annual alumni events, programs, and services, including the supervision and stewardship of our Alumni Chapter Program, Alumni Reunion Weekend, Bengal 5K Run & Fun Walk, Homecoming Weekend, and Young Alumnus Achievement Awards.  I also implement marketing/publicity strategies to promote alumni events, programs and services through campus-wide/alumni communication efforts, our college/alumni web site, alumni publications, press releases, and community outreach.

I look forward to serving as the Alumni Affairs Liason to the Student Personnel Administration Alumni Chapter and encourage your support and involvement in the coming year.  Save the Date and plan to join us at the 13th Annual Student Affairs Professional Conference.
