Course Descriptions

Speech-language pathologists are educated to assess the development of speech and language, and to treat speech and language disorders. They are prepared for rewarding careers as speech-language pathologists through our nationally recognized program that provides direct experience with clients in both clinical and school settings. By studying speech-language pathology, students learn about:

  • Theories of how children acquire speech and language
  • The anatomy and physiology of speech, hearing, and swallowing mechanisms
  • Neurology associated with producing and understanding speech
  • The causes and classifications of speech, language, hearing, and swallowing disorders in children and adults
  • Characteristics of communication and swallowing disorders that lead to diagnosis and treatment
  • Hearing disorders, including pathologies of the ear and assessment procedures
