7-12 and 5-6 Extension Programs

The biology B.S. degree program in secondary education leads to a New York State Initial Certificate for teaching both biology and general science in grades 7–12. The 5-6 Extension program leads to a New York State Initial certificate for teaching both biology and general sciences in grades 5-12. Students seeking admission to the B.S. biology program should initially enroll in the B.A. biology program.

The biology education Postbaccalaureate certification-only program  leads to a New York State Initial Certificate for teaching both biology and general science in grades 7-12. the additional 5–6 extension program leads to a New York State Initial Certificate for teaching both biology and general science in grades 5–12. The program is intended for persons with existing undergraduate degrees in biology or a related field who are interested in obtaining certification to teach biology in secondary schools or general science in middle schools.

The master of science in biology education is designed for teachers who wish to combine advanced work in biology with graduate work in education.
