Buffalo State Stories

Eve Everette

Class of 2008, Theater and Art History

“It’s been a blast.” That about sums up Eve Everette’s Buffalo State experience so far. Everette, a double major who expects to graduate in 2008, chose Buffalo State when she received an All College Honors Program scholarship. Before that, the Hamburg native had been leaning toward going out of town to school.

She was happy on campus from the beginning, but she found her academic home when she took her first theater class. "I took the class because my adviser suggested it," she said. "It’s a good way to learn how to be comfortable in front of a large group of people."

For their final, students developed a brief theater production—everything from directing, to acting, to lighting. "It was the most challenging thing I’ve ever done," said Everette, "and that’s what I liked about it."

Since then, Everette has been majoring in both theater and art history. She went on an art history study trip to Siena, Italy, in spring 2007 through the college’s Siena Program. "With all the extracurricular things I do," she said, "Siena gave me a chance to focus and think."

Everette has appeared in The Rocky Horror Show (the long-running stage musical that inspired the movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show) and as the lead in The Diary of Anne Frank. "It was an amazing experience to tell Anne’s story to so many people," Everette said. She also is the president of the All College Honors Program Student Council. "I take that job seriously because I love the program so much," she said. "I’ve met such dedicated, funny people with so many different interests."

As she has progressed through college, Everette says she has noticed that Buffalo State students are treated like scholars. "I’ve always been challenged and asked for more," she said.

Everette is already giving back to Buffalo State. As an All College Honors Program scholarship recipient, she has attended several events, including the annual Scholarship Gala and the Class of 1957 reunion dinner last summer.

"I’ve learned that alumni like to get a first-hand account from a student," she said. "And I love their stories, too. It’s great to belong to Buffalo State."
