Athletics play a vital role in the college experience, and at Buffalo State there are numerous opportunities for students to participate in sports. Buffalo State coaches, well-versed in training methods necessary for success in intercollegiate athletics, know that athletics is a coordinated effort that integrates self-discipline and teamwork with the pursuit of individual and team goals & skills useful in everyday life.
The Athletics Department staff prides itself on providing support to all student-athletes as they strive to reach the highest level of performance in athletics and academics. Although most student-athletes attending Buffalo State are New York residents, many students come to Buffalo State from the northeast and the mid-west as well as from over 60 countries represented within Buffalo State's diverse student population. The men's intercollegiate athletics program consists of eight varsity sports teams, while the women's program provides competition for 11 varsity sports.
Buffalo State competes at the NCAA Division III level and is associated with the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) as well as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). Recent success by a number of Buffalo State's athletic squads and individuals has resulted in post-season play at both the conference and national levels.
