Burchfield Penney Book Club: The Orchid Thief by Susan Orlean

As the Burchfield Penney Book Club enters its third season, the theme continues to evolve! For 2014-15, selected books relate to the exhibitions on view at The Center. For the new season, Book Club meets on Thursdays every other month at 5:00 pm in the Studio Classroom. The Burchfield Penney Art Center Book Club always welcome new members! Idea Lab Meeting

The Idea Lab's mission is to constructively share ideas, insights, and experiences that will facilitate Buffalo State College's mission and advance creativity, collaboration, and research within our campus community and beyond!

At Buffalo State, exceptional and innovative work is conducted by faculty and staff. The Idea Lab believes that by getting together on a monthly basis for facilitated, but informal conversations about the work we are doing, our interests and our projects—planned or underway—can be created in a more innovative, interactive, and constructive campus environment. The Idea Lab is a grassroots project designed to strengthen our institutional capacity and to create a platform for new collaborations and unexpected outcomes. Meeting notes will be shared and archived for future reference and inspiration.

A Day in the Life of Service: Buffalo State Community Service Day

Time: 9:15 a.m.

Location: Houston Gym Assemble at Houston Gym

Registration begins at 9:15 a.m. Day five of inauguration week.

Students, faculty and staff, alumni, and friends are invited to commemorate the inauguration of President Conway-Turner by volunteering during this event. The VSLC coordinates the service projects and transportation—all you have to do is register (and wear appropriate clothing and shoes). Students will sign up for a project on the day of the event, so don't be late! The doors of Houston Gym will open at 9:15 a.m. for students to select their project, followed by a kick-off ceremony at 9:30 a.m., with buses departing campus at 9:45 a.m. Lunch provided for all volunteers and community partners.

50 Shades of Pink: Breast Cancer Awareness Gala and Runway Show

Time: 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Location: Campbell Student Union Social Hall

The United Students Government and Fashion Students Association will be holding the first gala and runway show in honor of breast cancer awareness month. This is a black and white affair so please come dressed to impress. All proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen fund.

The NCBI, Welcoming Diversity and Inclusion workshop is being held on Saturday, October 25th in Butler Library 210. 

Due to the nature of the workshop, participants must be present from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (registration and breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m.).
