The Program
Meet the Candidates 2005, is a component of the student elections. It is not intended for endorsement purposes but to educate the students about the candidates running for Executive Positions of the United Students’ Government. All candidates running for these positions were invited to participate in the program and have been notified of the questions that will be asked in advance.
RULES:
• Each candidate will be asked to answer five questions.
• Each candidate will be given one minute to provide their response.
• The moderator will say time, ending the candidate’s response.
• The audience will be allowed to ask questions after the moderator has asked all of the five questions to the candidates.
• No clapping, jeering or other intentional distractions will be allowed.
FORMAT:
The duration for this program will be an hour and fifteen minutes long (12:15pm to 1:30pm). It will be broken into five 1 minute question and response segments for each candidate. A 10 to 15 minute open discussion with members of the audience will be incorporated after the last question is asked.
NOTE:
The questions below were submitted by student candidates running for office in this year’s student elections. The elections committee will recommend questions to the moderator who will deliver the questions to the candidates 12:15pm on March 24, 2005, Campbell Student Union Cookery Lounge.
QUESTIONS:
• “What determines a committee to receive a certain budget?”
• “What are your goals for this position?”
• “What are your plans for future USG e-board? What do you intend on doing?”
• “What is your goal for USG for the future & Vision? Outside USG, what are some campus concerns you might focus on in the following year?”
• “You have the power to change 3 things on the Buffalo State campus. There is NO limitation. What are they and why?”
• As President, Vice President or Treasurer, wthat you are going to do different in the next term that you think wasn’t done in the last term?
• “What are your qualifications?”
• “USG funded organizations working with Greek organizations. Are theses organizations going o be able to work more freely together rather than with limitations?”
• “What qualifications do you posses that will allow students to feel comfortable in hearing you as an executive officer of USG?”
• “As the Administrative Vice President Student Life, what changes do you feel you can bring? And if so can you state some of those ideas.”
• What’s your approach to bringing other organizations together as a community and bring the campus together in the same sense?
• What happened to the Faculty/Student Association? And where did the money/grants go? Has the grant money been put towards the students benefit?”
• “How do you think you could help improve residence life? What are some of your ideas?”
• “What is a weakness you have? How could you turn this into a strength in terms of your leadership abilities?”
• “As president or vice president how do you intend to reach out to the community or students as a whole in being recognized as a student representative? “
• “In what ways do you intend to get students involved with BSC activities?”
• “What experiences have you had that has prepared you for Student Life?”
• “What experience do you have dealing with Student Life on campus?”
• “What programs and services do you plan on providing to help Buffalo State student life on campus?”
