Buffalo State and the University at Buffalo co-sponsor the Programa de Estudios Hispánicos. This summer program offers participants the opportunity to sample Spain's historical and artistic treasures and to earn six undergraduate or graduate credits in Spanish language and culture at University of Salamanca, Spain's oldest university. By staying with a Spanish family, students strengthen their language skills and experience Spanish culture firsthand.

Students may now choose to do two weeks of language and culture study in Salamanca followed by two weeks of unpaid internships in the mornings (in museums, parks, cultural centers, or social service agencies in Salamanca itself or elsewhere in the region) and online tutorials in the afternoons with an instructor and a cohort of four other students. Language study includes preparation for the specific linguistic needs of the student's internship setting. Those participating in this option must score at the intermediate or advanced level on the University of Salamanca's placement test.
