The current entry-level certificate in New York State is the Initial Certificate. This certificate is valid for five years and is the first step toward a Professional Certificate.
The requirements for an Initial Certificate are as follows:
- Program completion or degree in Education
- Fingerprinting/background check
- Exams:
- Seminars
- Completed application on the TEACH website
- Signed Release Authorization Form submitted to the Teacher Certification Office (with copies of your seminar completion certificates)
