Fashion and Textile Technology
The fashion and textile technology program prepares students to work in the fashion industry in textile and fashion design, CAD/CAM product development, and fashion retailing and merchandising.
What You'll Learn
General skills: Analytical, interpersonal, creative thinking, visual communication, technological, and organizational.
Entry-level skills: Trend research, design, technical specifications and costing, digital visual presentation methods, product testing, production, merchandising, and distribution methods for finished products.
Technological skills: Technology of apparel/textile aesthetic and technical product design manufacturing, costing, and merchandise.
After Graduation
Examples of available positions include technicians in testing labs to set safety and performance standards, CAD apparel/fashion designers, trend and design specialists, private label costing and sourcing managers, CAM production specialists, stylists, colorists, entrepreneurs, fashion/visual merchandisers, merchandising representatives, fashion journalists, logistics specialists, U.S. customs agents, historic costume/textile conservators, and theater costumers.
Graduates have been employed by most major apparel and textile companies, including Amercrombie & Fitch, AccuMed Technologies, Bloomingdale's, Bureau Veritas, Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, Eastman Machines, Fisher Price, Gap, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Lord & Taylor, Macy's, New Era, Target, and Victoria's Secret.
