In the Classroom

Student artists are placed in the center of the creative process at Buffalo State Theater.  We believe the best way to learn is by Doing.  Our students enjoy this philosophy immediately upon entering our department---there’s no waiting and watching--students are immersed in acting, dancing, designing, directing, playwriting and research.  All Theater majors take a foundational collection of classes exposing them to all elements of the theater.  After this, each student selects an area of concentration or “track”—choices include Acting, Design (Set, Costume, Lighting, Sound), Directing/Dramaturgy and Technical Theater.  Each track challenges the student artist in a variety of diverse genres (contemporary theater, Shakespeare, Musical Theater, TV/Film, Greek Tragedy, etc.)  In addition to the classroom/studio curriculum student-artists directly apply their new skills in our Casting Hall season productions, Bengal ‘Plause Performance Series and TFA student films.
