Anne Frank Project
In the Fall of 2006 the Buffalo State College Theater Department produced THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK. Little did we know that we were to embark on a journey that would define our department’s path towards social change and responsibility. In an attempt to refresh this classic story and reach our contemporary audience, we chose to weave the horrors of the Rwanda Holocaust of 1994 into Anne’s story set in Amsterdam during Hitler’s reign of World War II. We clearly touched a nerve that has since ignited a passion for world improvement amongst our students, faculty and administration. To that end, the Theater Department, the School of Arts and Humanities and the Buffalo State College Office of Equity and Diversity have joined hands with The Holocaust Resource Center of Buffalo (www.holocaustcenterbuff.com ) to present THE ANNE FRANK PROJECT.
Scheduled for September 11, 2009, this will be a conference celebrating the life and wisdom of Anne Frank (she would have turned 80 years old this year) and responding to the questions, ”What would Anne think of our world today?” and “How have we measured up to Anne’s ideals and hopes?” Professors, students, community and national experts will examine these questions from a wide variety of diverse angles: art, poetry, film, theater, dance, science, education, psychology, survivor accounts, etc.
