Program Requirements

The global studies minor is intended to foster international awareness and a spirit of intellectual creativity and independence. It is the perfect complement for any kind of study abroad experience.

The minor consists of 18 credits in classes with an international emphasis, selected in consultation with the program coordinator, Dr. William Raffel. The goal is to create an individualized, personally meaningful, and academically sound course of study based upon an individual issue of your choice.

Because the global studies minor is specifically intended to foster awareness of and openness to non-English speaking world cultures, students selecting this minor are strongly encouraged to study abroad in a non-English speaking country for at least one semester.

For this same reason, students minoring in global studies must demonstrate proficiency in one foreign language, by the successful completion of FRE/GER/ITA/SPA 301 or the highest levels of other modern languages offered at Buffalo State.

For more information, contact Dr. Raffel at (716) 878-3020.
