The International Studies Interdisciplinary Minor is intended to foster international awareness and a spirit of intellectual creativity and independence. It is a perfect complement for any kind of study abroad experience!
It consists of 18 credits in classes with an international emphasis, selected in consultation with the program coordinator, Dr. William Raffel. The goal is to create an individualized, personally meaningful, and academically sound course of study based upon an individual issue of your choice. Many courses offered in Spring 2010 are potential options.
Topics could include:
- Global Environmental Concerns
- The Chinese or French or German or Italian or Spanish Influence on Global Culture
- Comparative Systems of Social Control
- International Political Economy
Because the International Studies Minor is specifically intended to foster awareness of and and openness to non-English speaking world cultures, students selecting this minor are strongly encouraged to study abroad in a non-English speaking country for at least one semester.
For this same reason, students minoring in International Studies must demonstrate proficiency in one foreign language, by the successful completion of FRE/GER/ITA/SPA 301 or the highest levels of other modern languages offered at Buffalo State.
For more information, e-mail or phone Dr. Raffel at (716) 878-3020. He is available Mondays and Wednesdays between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. in 120 Savage Hall (in the basement), or other times by appointment.
