Faculty-Staff Brownbags

Due to budget cuts, the Final Fridays brownbag series is on hiatus during the 2011-2012 academic year

Final Fridays: Discussions about Gender and Sexuality in Teaching, Research, and Service

In 2009, the Women and Gender Studies Program started a brownbag series for faculty and staff, held in conjunction with the Faculty Development Program.  These brownbags offer faculty and staff information, resources, and an opportunity to discuss important issues related to gender and sexuality that impact higher education.

Past Topics Include:

Discussing gender issues in classroom settings

The effect of student gender on class discussions and small group activities

Intersections between race and gender

Transgender students in the classroom and campus life

Issues involving gay, lesbian, and bisexual students

Teaching about the concept of privilege

Confronting Sexism and other Biased Statements in Class Discussions

Avoiding "Othering" during Discussions about Diversity
