Due to budget cuts, the Final Fridays brownbag series is on hiatus during the 2011-2012 academic year
Final Fridays: Discussions about Gender and Sexuality in Teaching, Research, and Service
In 2009, the Women and Gender Studies Program started a brownbag series for faculty and staff, held in conjunction with the Faculty Development Program. These brownbags offer faculty and staff information, resources, and an opportunity to discuss important issues related to gender and sexuality that impact higher education.
Past Topics Include:
Discussing gender issues in classroom settings
The effect of student gender on class discussions and small group activities
Intersections between race and gender
Transgender students in the classroom and campus life
Issues involving gay, lesbian, and bisexual students
Teaching about the concept of privilege
Confronting Sexism and other Biased Statements in Class Discussions
Avoiding "Othering" during Discussions about Diversity
